I am imagining my bedroom, wherever that might be at a given time, with one wall covered with my own botanical sketches from the surrounding area. But more than that...
The natural world has been cultivated over time by every living thing to walk the earth. Cities of plankton and coral have receded and blossomed, we have melted and frozen and melted again forming mountains and oceans, continents and islands. I'd like to think of Los Angeles as the "arranged natural." A city that grew from our hands, but grew nonetheless.
Thence the botanical sketches include more than just the clover at my doorstep, but the doorstep as well, and the market at the corner, and the abandoned mill three blocks down overgrown with vines. These too are my landscape.

'Nyumbani' means 'Home'
Nyumbani Children's Home
The Nyumbani Children's Home was founded in 1992 to aid orphans created by the AIDS pandemic in Africa. The home was created in response to the dire need for specialized facilities for abandoned children in Nairobi, Kenya. Today over 100 orphans live at Nyumbani Home located in Karen, Nairobi.
Based on the success of the children's home, the Lea Toto program was created. Lea Toto is a community based outreach program providing services to HIV+ children and their families throughout Nairobi. A related effort called Nyumbani Village was spawned to support both orphans and elders impacted by the AIDS pandemic. Located on 1000 acres donated by the Kitui District County Council, Nyumbani Village is conceived to support between 1280-1600 individuals via a self sustaining agricultural based venture.
There are a variety of ways you can volunteer, and visits can also be arranged.

What I've always wanted to say to a clerk asking, "How are you?"
Cashier: How are you?
Customer: Do you want the honest answer?
Cashier: Yes.
Customer: I feel like the business end of a donkey. I am extremely hungover and did a mountain of cocaine last night. Now I have to make dinner for a 68-year-old gay artist who is trying to fuck me.
Cashier: I'm... sorry.
Customer: And the woman I love is in another state pregnant with her ex-boyfriend's baby, and I wish the baby was mine. And I'm sleeping with a dominatrix. And it's all true.
